Reserve Your MooringInsulate exposed pipes and water tanks, and consider using lagging or heat tape to prevent freezing. Running your taps occasionally can also help stop them from freezing solid in sub-zero temps.
Make sure your solid fuel stove or diesel heater is well-maintained and ventilated. Have a carbon monoxide detector onboard, and keep fuel stocked up - especially in remote areas where supplies may be limited.
Winter brings damp, so invest in a dehumidifier or moisture absorbers, and ventilate regularly. Use thermal blinds and draft excluders to keep heat in and moisture out.
Bad weather can limit your movement, so keep essentials onboard - food, coal, gas, water, and warm clothing. It's also wise to keep your phone charged and torches handy in case of power cuts.
